Robinson Brothers Ltd. provides a number of blends and products that are essential to the fuel gas industry. Natural gas is virtually odourless, which is a major safety issue, especially if leakage's cannot be detected easily and quickly. The odorant developed has been formulated to ensure that people can recognise gas leaks, and is highly concentrated to reduce the transportation of this important safety feature.

RBL has been involved in the Gas Odorant business for over 30years since manufacture of tetrahydrothiophene in the 1960's. The gas odorant used in the UK today is a blend of mercaptan and sulphide. Other blends have been prepared and supplied for markets outside of the UK. The supply of blend to the UK market amounts to several hundred tonnes of material each year.

RBL has total service responsibility for the supply of gas odorant to the UK gas networks. Purpose designed delivery tanker units are charged with the odorant blend within RBL's dedicated odorant facility. The facility is equipped with closed loop scrubber systems that are linked to the onsite abatement unit, ensuring full containment of the extremely odorous and highly concentrated blend. The tankers are then despatched to installations across the UK to facilitate odorisation. As part of the process, RBL manages stock holding, replenishment and contingency levels of the blends using data models and procedures to facilitate the fill programme. Dedicated driver operators are experienced and fully trained in hazards and safety as well as spillage control. In addition, RBL can assist in the decommissioning of old gas installations and our service includes the decontamination of equipment and the disposal of waste and hardware.
