Containment

In 2000, RBL completed the installation of a £2 million on-site abatement system, resulting in a 99.8% reduction in sulphur oxide emissions and supporting our accreditation to the ISO14001 environmental standard.

The system installed was an AEA V-Tex scrubber system, winner of the MIAA (Manufacturing Industry Achievement Awards) Product of the Year. The unit operates without moving parts or filters, offers low maintenance and provides a low to zero plume from the abatement stack.

Emissions from all plants are exhausted via a ring main system through to the abatement plant for scrub and incineration. The energy recovered from the abatement process is then used to heat up water for RBL's on-site energy requirements. Less than 2% of our waste is disposed off-site.

As a result of the efficiency of the abatement plant and the associated containment facilities installed on site, RBL safely handles up to 1000 tonnes of mercaptans each year.
