Mercaptans, sulphides and sulphonesRobinson Brothers Ltd has developed novel processing chemistry to produce a range of long chain mercaptans with a characteristic low odour property. This enables our mercaptans, such as octadecyl mercaptan (ODM) and hexadecyl mercaptan (HDM), to be used in a broad range of applications. Thus, ODM and HDM are used as chain transfer agents to control polymer growth; as modifiers in polysulphide resins and as anti-tarnishing agents in silver polish. HDM, 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid and eicosanethiol (ECT) are also used within monolayer lithography applications. RBL has recently developed a broad range of long chain branched thiols, such as dipentaerythritol hexakis thiogycollate, for use as multi-functional cross linking agents in resin, adhesives and coatings production. Also for the electronic and coatings market, RBL is able to offer t-butyl thiophenol. From sulphur coupling and oxidation, RBL is able to offer a range of sulphides and sulphones. Examples include the pharmaceutical intermediate, cystamine dihydrochloride and photographic intermediates such as tetramethyl cystamine hydrochloride and tribromophenylmethylsulphone.
